Online counseling - also called distance therapy or “e-therapy” - is the term used when a professional
counselor or psychotherapist talks with you over the Internet, to give you emotional support, mental
health advice or some other professional service. It could be one question, or an ongoing conversation; it
could be by e-mail, chat, video or even Internet phone (voice-over-internet-phone).
I primarily use Voice-Over-Internet-Phone (VOIP) which is driven by Skype technology. It is only with
the relatively recent proven reliability of VOIP protocols that I am satisfied that effective counseling can
happen between a therapist/counselor and client(s).
I have used the Skype protocol successfully for a number of years with very few technical difficulties
with clients and supervisees in the United States, Australia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia and
Asia.
